Summary of Changes

Closes #11.

Implements Rimworld Parity Pillars 2 & 3 alongside tester and community feedback for building structures, zoning, object placement, and a technology research tree.

1. 200×200 Procedural World Map Generation (sim-core/src/world-gen.ts)

  • Deterministic 200×200 planetary tile grid (40,000 tiles) using multi-octave Mulberry32-seeded 2D value noise.
  • Whittaker climate diagram classification generating 7 distinct biomes: ocean, tundra, boreal_forest, temperate_forest, arid_shrubland, desert, mountain_crags.
  • Stone layer assignments (granite, slate, limestone, marble, sandstone, basalt) and growing season calculation.
  • Fast, typed Structure-of-Arrays WorldMapData format (~12ms generation, zero runtime garbage).
  • Settleable landing spot search algorithm (findSettleableWorldTile) ensuring colonies are founded on valid land.

2. Biome-Driven Procedural Local Map Generation (sim-core/src/map-gen.ts)

  • Procedural 100\times 100 local colony maps driven by the world map tile's biome, elevation, and rock types.
  • Mountain crags with basalt/slate/granite rock faces, mineral veins (compacted machinery / salvage alloy), ancient ruins with slate walls, wild berry patches, and scattered survival landing crates.

3. Data-Driven Technologies & Research Progression (content/technologies.json, sim-core/)

  • Added content/technologies.json with 8 initial technologies: stonecutting, basic_furniture, defensive_structures, smithing, machining, gunsmithing, hydroponics, electricity_basics.
  • Added TechnologyDef to content-registry.ts and included technologies in the replay-authoritative contentHash.
  • Implemented SET_ACTIVE_RESEARCH command and research accumulation loop in ColonySim.stepTick().
  • Added simple_research_bench building where assigned pioneers work on scientific discovery.
  • Enforced prerequisite locking on PLACE_BLUEPRINT (slate walls require stonecutting, machining tables require machining, etc.).
  • Binary snapshot and delta codec updated to encode/decode activeResearchTechId, techProgress map, and completedTechIds.

4. Expanded Objects, Structures, Crops & Recipes

  • Structures & Furniture: timber_door, slate_door, wooden_bed, dining_table, wood_chair.
  • Production & Security: simple_research_bench, machining_table, sandbags, wood_barricade, spike_trap.
  • Items & Weapons: component, heal_root, cloth, steel_shiv, scrap_pistol, bolt_rifle.
  • Crops: healroot_plant, cotton_plant.
  • Recipes: Component fabrication, steel shiv forging, scrap pistol assembly, bolt rifle crafting.
  • Zones: Stockpile zones now support dumping designation (zone_dumping / CREATE_DUMPING_ZONE).

5. Client UI & Visuals (client/)

  • Two-tier Category Architect Toolbar: Replaced flat toolbar with category tabs ([Orders], [Structure], [Furniture], [Production], [Security], [Zones]) featuring lock states and prerequisite tooltips.
  • Interactive Research Modal ([T]): View available, active, completed, and locked technologies; live progress bar; "Set Active Research" button.
  • Landing Site Picker ("Pick a spot to lay down roots"): Interactive 200×200 world canvas in the colony charter registration form with coordinate controls, live biome info, rock layers, growing season, and random settleable spot finder.
  • 16-Bit SNES Pixel Sprites: Procedural pixel textures added for all new doors, furniture, security structures, and research stations.

Verification

  • npm test: 17 sim-core tests (including 5 new parity system tests) + 4 server integration tests passing (100% pass rate).
  • npm run typecheck: Strict TypeScript typechecking passing with 0 errors across @frontier/sim-core, @frontier/server, and @frontier/client.
  • npm run build: Production Vite build and esbuild server bundling complete cleanly.

"Lets get all this approved and pushed live and then submit this bug; The top card for colonists flickers, for Kalen Voss their name wraps and unwraps and it's jarring"

All tests pass cleanly:

  • sim-core unit & 300-tick command replay determinism tests (17 passed)
  • server persistence, auth, and world trade integration tests (4 passed)
  • client TypeScript typecheck (tsc --noEmit)

Fix for the top card flicker is included directly in commit a974dad (min-width: 140px; white-space: nowrap; overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis;).
